After a period of operation, heavy oil and wax oil gradually accumulate at the bottom of the crude oil storage tank, forming sludge. The new method for removing the sludge is the semi-automatic mechanical cleaning equipment provided by BJATL.

Our company has developed two models of mechanical cleaning equipment for large crude oil storage tanks:

1. Min-COTWS Crude Oil Tank Washing And Tank Cleaning System
Designed for tanks with a capacity of under 20,000 m³, this system is a fully integrated solution ideal for cleaning small-to-medium crude oil and product tanks (up to 50,000 m³). It features high integration and a compact footprint, resulting in lower transportation costs.

2. COTWS Crude Oil Tank Mechanical Cleaning System
Specifically designed for the mechanical cleaning of large crude oil storage tanks with a capacity exceeding 50,000 m³.

3. System Components
The system comprises a vacuum suction pump unit, a heat-exchange cleaning pump unit, an air separation unit, gas detectors, a 3D rotating spray gun assembly, a piping and valve manifold, lighting and communication systems, and a power distribution unit.

4. Workflow

  • 4.1 Same-Oil Cleaning: Highly fluid crude oil is heated and pressurized, then sprayed via 3D rotating nozzles. The high-pressure, high-temperature jets impact, agitate, and dissolve stagnant sludge on the tank bottom. As the sludge integrates into the crude oil and becomes fluid, it is extracted from the tank by the vacuum suction pump unit. After passing through two stages of filtration, it is transferred to the heat-exchange cleaning pump unit, where it is reheated and pressurized to serve as a continuous circulating cleaning medium.
  • 4.2 Hot Water Rinsing: Once the sludge is removed, the tank enters the hot water rinsing phase. High-pressure, high-temperature hot water washes away suspended crude oil from the tank's inner walls. The mixture then undergoes oil-water separation and multi-stage filtration. The recovered oil is pumped to a storage tank, while the separated water is recycled back into the cleaning process.
  • 4.3 Auxiliary Systems: A steam generator produces steam, while gas detectors monitor oxygen and combustible gas levels 24/7. The system also includes lighting, communication, and visual monitoring systems.

5. System Features
The entire cleaning system consists of highly integrated, specialized equipment clusters with a high degree of mechanization and automation. The process is environmentally friendly and operates in an oxygen-deficient (inert) environment, ensuring maximum safety.
